Rail Freight

Rail Freight Services | China to Europe & the UK

White Wave Logistics offers a weekly railfreight service from China into Europe and the UK, providing a reliable overland alternative when sea freight is too slow and airfreight is not commercially viable.

Routes currently available

China–Europe rail movements generally run on two main corridors, and we route shipments based on timing, capacity, and risk:

  • Northern Corridor (Eurasian Land Bridge)
A well-established route moving west via Central Asia and onward through key European rail hubs. This is the most commonly used corridor for China–Europe rail freight.
  • Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian / TITR)
An alternative route that runs via Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea through the South Caucasus and Turkey into Europe. This corridor has been expanding as an option in recent years.

Departure frequency from China origin cities

Rail services operate from multiple major China origin hubs (for example Xi’an and Zhengzhou are among the highest-volume rail origins), and we can typically offer weekly departures depending on your chosen origin city and service type.

Typical transit times to the UK

Transit times vary by origin city, route selection, and final UK delivery point, but as a guide, the transit time from China by rail is typically around 18~20 days terminal to terminal, plus any last-mile delivery.

We will always confirm an expected transit range for the specific lane and origin before booking.

Rail vs Sea Freight | Cost and Transit Time (general guidance)

Railfreight is best viewed as the middle option:

  • Faster than sea freight (often cutting weeks out of transit)
  • Lower cost than airfreight, while still improving lead time and inventory availability

Sea freight remains the most economical option in many cases, but it comes with longer transit times and wider variability depending on sailing schedules and congestion. Rail can be a strong fit for cargo where lead time and supply chain continuity matter, but air is not justified commercially.

When to Choose Rail Freight

Rail freight is a strong option when sea freight transit times are too long, but air freight is not commercially viable.

It is particularly suitable when:

  • Faster transit than sea freight is required
  • Supply chain continuity and inventory flow are important
  • Cargo values or margins do not justify airfreight costs
  • More predictable transit times are needed compared to ocean services
  • A balance between cost and speed is the priority

Rail freight provides a practical middle ground, offering improved lead times over sea freight while remaining significantly more cost-effective than airfreight.
